The Feminist Library is being evicted from its current Lambeth home to a new one in Peckham. The Feminist Library was founded in 1975 by a by a small group of passionate volunteers, at the height of the Women’s Liberation Movement, to collect and preserve what has become one of the most important collections of feminist material in the UK.

The library provides a space in London for feminists and community groups to meet, organise, learn and create. However, over the years in common with most underfunded feminist enterprises, the Library has faced a variety of crises and uncertainties and has not been able to afford paid workers for most of its life. However, a small group of dedicated volunteers has kept it going.
The Feminist library now needs the support of the community to help with their relocation into Peckham - a space within the Sojourner Truth Community Centre. The new space in Peckham is 1,500sq ft, which is 50% bigger then their current premises. Securing this area will enable the library to protect and build on their priceless collection and expand their vibrant community events programme. The new exhibition space will also allow them to showcase feminist art as well as their amazing collections of posters, flyers, pamphlets, vintage badges and tote bags, among many other wonderful items of ephemera that they have collected over the past 4+ decades.
They are crowdfunding for £30,000 (and are almost there!). There are plenty of rewards depending how much you give; £25 gets you Feminist Library special edition move tote bag, a thank-you 'Shero' card from the team, £50 or more gets you a couple of VIP tickets for you and a friend to the Grand Opening party at the new Feminist Library space.
