Late-night Peckham club Canavan's has closed down

The hugely popular late-night Peckham venue Canavan’s permanently closed its doors last Friday (25th September). Canavan’s is yet another example of a Covid casualty that has hit the hospitality and bar industry over the last couple of months.

Owner Kieran Canavan said in a post on Facebook "With no help from the government and after having talks with the landladies they are refusing to reduce the rent until the virus is dealt with," wrote Canavan. Canavan’s which is popular for its late-night music that goes on into the early hours of the music (closing at 5am) Canavan went on to say "As you know we are a nighttime club and only get busy after 10 PM—there is no way I can survive,".

The humble club on Peckham Rye Lane gained popularly over the last 10 years with music from up-and-coming musicians to household names in dance music.

This news follows on from the announcement that vegan cafe ‘2 girls’ cafe’ also at the top of Rye Lane has also closed down due to the continued pressures Covid has presented over the last few months.
