You have probably read by now that the new British gritty crime drama “Blue Story” written and directed by Andrew Onwubolu aka Rapman has been pulled from all Vue cinemas after a violent brawl took place (apparently) during the screening of the gangland film in Birmingham.

It has not actually been confirmed whether there is any relation between the screening of Blue Story and the violence, but what we do know is that is it really unfortunate that this happened during the opening weekend of this debut film written and directed by Deptford boy Rapman.

You can now watch a screening of Blue Story in Peckham, in and around where the story is based at the legendary local and independent cinema Peckham Plex. Blue Story, a British film released by Paramount Pictures that depicts the life and friendship between two young boys that end up on rival sides of a street war. The film explores the violence happening on the streets of London.

The film reflects elements of Rapman’s own personal experiences growing up in Deptford and going to school in Peckham and the problems he faced by local gang rivalry. The message the film is trying to convey is how young kids can lose their way because of the situations they are growing up in and around. Rapman said in an interview he wants “the audience to see past crime statistics and headlines about knife crime, to understand how a "good kid" can lose their way.”

Rapman believes that problems start in the playground where kids are vulnerable and situations are intense. He hopes the film will open up more conversations about the root of London gang life and ways to tackle it, focusing on how to prevent kids from picking up a knife in the first place.

Local Peckham cinema, PeckhamPlex is screening “Blue Story” until the 28th of November. Tickets (as always) £4.99 all day, every day.
